INTEGRITY. TRANSPARENCY. Accountability. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY.

This is my campaign for Long Beach Town Council — not four issues among many, but the entire platform I'm running on: Integrity, Transparency, Accountability, and Fiscal Responsibility.

Take any one away, and the structure they support cannot stand: integrity gives rise to transparency, transparency enables accountability, and all three are proven through fiscal responsibility. That combination, not any single piece of it, is what constitutes good governance — and it's the standard Long Beach deserves.

TRANSPARENCY

TRANSPARENCY

One standard. Every time. I believe in one standard, applied the same way no matter who's watching. I'm committing to a written standard for gifts, conflicts of interest, and use of Town resources that mirrors Indiana's own ethics code for state employees, even though that code doesn't reach town officials. None of it is required of me by law. I'm holding myself to it anyway, because residents deserve to know exactly what they can expect from me.

TRANSPARENCY

Every purchase. No secrets. Best-in-class procurement is transparency, operationalized. Long Beach's purchasing rules haven't been substantively rewritten since 1998. My plan replaces case-by-case judgment calls with a four-tier matrix — the bigger the purchase, the more competition and documentation it requires automatically. Products and services get selected on qualifications instead of automatically going to the lowest bidder. And conflicts of interest get disclosed in writing before the vote, not after someone asks.

ACCOUNTABILITY

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

No excuses. No exceptions.  Long Beach deserves clear committee structure that is codified and legal. Long Beach deserves decisions residents can see before they're made, not just explained after the fact. Long Beach deserves a town government that's sophisticated in how it operates.

Save first. Spend second. A plan to build the Town's financial reserves to the gold standard. Long Beach's Rainy-Day Fund holds far less than the 25–35% national standard for a top-tier credit rating. My plan funds the reserve first, before any new discretionary spending is approved. The plan is stress-tested against Long Beach's leanest year on record, so it holds up even when revenue is tight.

FOUR PILLARS. AUDITED EVERY YEAR.

The Cost of Doing It Right — Every Pillar, Every Year.

The Gold Standard.  "The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has long been on record encouraging state and local governments to obtain an annual independent audit of their financial statements." https://www.gfoa.org/materials/offering-statements-and-the-independent-auditors-role

The Four Pillars.  An annual audit isn't just a financial procedure; it's the mechanism that makes each of these pillars real and ties them all together:

  • Fiscal Responsibility — Catching issues early, before they compound.
  • Transparency — A current, clear picture of town finances, every year.
  • Accountability — Every dollar has a name attached to it.
  • Integrity — Holding ourselves to a higher standard than the legal minimum.

Worth Every Penny.  An annual audit catches small problems while they're still small — and cheap to fix. It's not an expense; it's insurance that every tax dollar is accounted for and spent in the best interest of the members of our community. An audit may cost money, but losing trust in government costs everything.

On day one, I'll advocate to adopt this best practice for our town.
